The only way to prevent head lice from moving onto your head would be to never have head-to-head contact with anyone – an unlikely situation, particularly for children. The best you can do is check for head lice on a regular basis using the detection method, carry out contact tracing if a louse is found, and don’t forget to check if you are told about an infection through contact tracing from someone else.
That way you have the opportunity to treat a head louse infection before they lay too many eggs and before it is passed on to too many others.
Head lice cannot jump or fly, they move from head to head by walking (at an average speed of around 10cm per minute).
